Biography

Eugenia "Genia" Welner was born February 19, 1934 in Krakow, Poland. Daughter of Maurycy and Roza Weinstock.

"On 31 July 1943, the day before the final general evacuation, my parents sent me to the village of Lazy in the Zawiercie district" to live with the Winkler family. "I had to work ... I never left the house ... The door was always locked .. I called them uncle and aunt .. Things were better for me under the Russians ... In May my father came for me; I cried for joy."

"The ghetto in Będzin until July 31, 1943. The father gives the girl back to a friendly Polish family. Help of the Winkler family in saving the child. Father's return from the guerrilla after liberation.
