Ernst Glück (Ernsts Gliks)

Ernst Glück (Ernsts Gliks; 1652-1705) was a German-Latvian scholar and Lutheran theologian, best known as the author of the first translation of the Bible into Latvian. Born November 15, 1652 in Wettin [Germany], completed his translation of the Bible into Latvian while living in Marienburg (Alūksne) in Livonia, Latvia. Glück's foster daughter, Marta Skavronska, married Czar Peter the Great and at his death ruled as Empress Catherine I of Russia. Glück died in Moscow on May 5, 1705.
