Erik Benzelius (1632-1709) was a Swedish theologian, Bishop of Strängnäs in 1687 and Archbishop of Uppsala in 1700. As the president of the commission of revisers of the "Gustav Vasa Bible", he took a conservative approach that led the new Bible, the so-called Charles XII Bible, to be little more than a stylistic revision of the traditional text.
