Der vanderer Yid <Yiddish> / The Wandering Jew (1933) is a feature film (sound, B&W, 68m), directed by George Roland. Written by Jacob Mestel.
Abstract
"A German-Jewish artist encounters German anti-semitism when his masterpiece is rejected by the Berlin Academy of Art. Later, the figure in the painting comes to life and tells him the history of the Jews' persecution. This unusual film ends with footage of an anti-Hitler rally at New York City's Madison Square Garden."--National Center for Jewish Film.
As in the 1921 biography of Theodore Herzl, the myth of the Wandering Jew is here used as a vehicle for a pro-Jewish message.
Production
Produced and released in the United States (20 October 1933).
