Chet Allen (1939-1984) -- American singer and actor.
Allen was a child actor and a boy soprano, member of Columbus Boychoir, located at Princeton, NJ. At the age of 12, he created the title role in Amahl and the Night Visitors (1951 Menotti), opera. He was personally selected and trained by composer Gian Carlo Menotti for the world premiere of the opera, which was broadcast live on television on 24 December 1951. Menotti realized that on screen clarity, expression and acting skill were equally important than the strength and beauty of the voice. In 1951-52, Allen was the protagonist in all major productions of the opera and set an high standard for those who would follow in his footsteps.
