Charles Edward Horn (1786-1849) was a British American composer. Born in St Martin-in-the-Fields, London, England, the son of German British composer Charles Frederick Horn. A performing tenor, began also composing music. In 1827 he first arrived in the United States where he played an active role in the promotion of the musical life, as director of Park Theatre and co-founder of the New York Philharmonic Society and then as director of the Handel and Haydn Society in Boston. His oratorio Remission of Sins, based on Milton's Paradise Lost, was one of the first oratorios composed and performed in the United States.
