The Seven Deacons were a group of Jesus believers chosen to serve as leaders of the Hellenists in the early Church, as narrated in Acts of Apostles (6:1-7).

Overview

According to the Acts of Apostles, in the earliest Christian community of Jerusalem the "Hellenists complained against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution of food." The Twelve Apostles agreed and seven men were appointed--all Hellenistic Jews with Greek names, and no Gentiles (only a proselyte). They were led by Stephen. See Choice of the Seven.

In Acts there is no additional reference to the group or to the members of the group, with the exception of Stephen and Philip the Evangelist.
