Basilica di San Pietro in Vaticano is a Roman Catholic Church in Rome, Italy.

Overview

According to Christian tradition, Peter died a martyr around 64 CE and was buried in a cemetery on the Vatican hill. The Church was built in loco over the apostle's tomb.

The current Basilica was built between 1506 and 1626 on the foundations of a previous basilica built by Constantine in the 4th century.
