Raid of the Ghetto of Rome (16 October 1943)

On 16 October 1943, the Nazis raided the Roman Ghetto. A total of 1,259 people (363 men, 689 women, and 207 children) were detained by the Gestapo.

1,023 people were identified as Jews after 73 men, 28 women (no children) were released. They were taken to the Collegio militare in the Palazzo Salviati in Trastevere and deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp. All children under 14 perished. Only fifteen men and one woman survived. These are their names:
