Peter's Denial was an episode in the Passion of Jesus, according to the Gospels of Mark (14:27-31; 14:54.66-72), Matthew (26:31-35; 26:58.69-75), Luke (22:31-34.56-62), and John (13:36-38; 18:15-18.25-27).

Overview
All Gospels agree that when Jesus was arrested, "all the disciples deserted him and fled" (Mt 26:56).
Peter followed Jesus "at a distance... into the courtyard of the high Priest." According to the Gospel of John, Peter had to stop at the gate of the house and could enter the courtyard only because he was accompanied by "another disciple... who was known to the high priest."
Inside the courtyard, Peter was recognized as a "Galilean" by some bystanders (because of his accent, as Matthew clarifies) and suspected of being one of the followers of Jesus. Out of fear of being arrested, Peter denied to have known Jesus and fled away (according to Mark and Matthew, Peter even "cursed and swore an oath").
It happened in the courtyard of the High Priest, while Jesus was brought inside. In the attempt to make it more personal, Luke has Jesus looking at Peter when the cock crowed, but the context of the episode excludes any direct (or visual) contact between Jesus and Peter.

Mark 14:54.66-72 (NRSV) -- [54] Peter had followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest; and he was sitting with the guards, warming himself at the fire... [66] While Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant-girls of the high priest came by. 67 When she saw Peter warming himself, she stared at him and said, "You also were with Jesus, the man from Nazareth." 68 But he denied it, saying, "I do not know or understand what you are talking about." And he went out into the forecourt. Then the cock crowed. 69 And the servant-girl, on seeing him, began again to say to the bystanders, "This man is one of them." 70 But again he denied it. Then after a little while the bystanders again said to Peter, "Certainly you are one of them; for you are a Galilean." 71 But he began to curse, and he swore an oath, "I do not know this man you are talking about." 72 At that moment the cock crowed for the second time. Matthew (26:58.69-75) (NRSV) -- [58] But Peter was following him at a distance, as far as the courtyard of the high priest; and going inside, he sat with the guards in order to see how this would end... [69] Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A servant-girl came to him and said, "You also were with Jesus the Galilean." 70 But he denied it before all of them, saying, "I do not know what you are talking about." 71 When he went out to the porch, another servant-girl saw him, and she said to the bystanders, "This man was with Jesus of Nazareth." 72 Again he denied it with an oath, "I do not know the man." 73 After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, "Certainly you are also one of them, for your accent betrays you." 74 Then he began to curse, and he swore an oath, "I do not know the man!" Luke 22:31-34.56-62 (NRSV) -- 31 "Simon, Simon, listen! Satan has demanded to sift all of you like wheat, 32 but I have prayed for you that your own faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned back, strengthen your brothers." 33 And he said to him, "Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death!" 34 Jesus said, "I tell you, Peter, the cock will not crow this day, until you have denied three times that you know me."
Luke 22:54b-62 (NRSV) -- [54] ...Peter was following at a distance. 55 When they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them. 56 Then a servant-girl, seeing him in the firelight, stared at him and said, "This man also was with him." 57 But he denied it, saying, "Woman, I do not know him." 58 A little later someone else, on seeing him, said, "You also are one of them." But Peter said, "Man, I am not!" 59 Then about an hour later still another kept insisting, "Surely this man also was with him; for he is a Galilean." 60 But Peter said, "Man, I do not know what you are talking about!" At that moment, while he was still speaking, the cock crowed. 61 The Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, "Before the cock crows today, you will deny me three times." 62 And he went out and wept bitterly.

John 13:36-38 (NRSV) -- 36 Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, where are you going?" Jesus answered, "Where I am going, you cannot follow me now; but you will follow afterward." 37 Peter said to him, "Lord, why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you." 38 Jesus answered, "Will you lay down your life for me? Very truly, I tell you, before the cock crows, you will have denied me three times.
John 18:15-18.25-27 (NRSV) -- [15] Simon Peter and another disciple followed Jesus. Since that disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest, 16 but Peter was standing outside at the gate. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out, spoke to the woman who guarded the gate, and brought Peter in. 17 The woman said to Peter, "You are not also one of this man's disciples, are you?" He said, "I am not." 18 Now the slaves and the police had made a charcoal fire because it was cold, and they were standing around it and warming themselves. Peter also was standing with them and warming himself... [25] Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They asked him, "You are not also one of his disciples, are you?"
