Man of Sorrow is a devotional portrait of Jesus as a suffering man during his Passion. The iconography is very similar to that of the Ecce Homo, where Jesus is presented by Pilate to the crowd during the Trial of Jesus before Pilate. The figure of the Man of Sorrow however is completely removed and isolated from his "narrative" context and offered to the veneration of the believers. Only occasionally the representation as Jesus as the Man of Sorrow is accompanied by angels or saints.
