Joazar ben Boethus was the Jewish High Priest, 4 BCE, under Herod the Great, and again, ?-6 CE, under Herod Archelaus.

Overview

Joazar ben Boethus was appointed High Priest in 4 BCE by Herod the Great, succeeding Matthias ben Theophilus.

Later, the same year, Herod the Great died and Jaozar was replaced by Herod Antipas with another member of the House of Boethus, Eleazar ben Boethus.

Some years later, Jaozar became High Priest again, under Herod Archelaus, by succeeding Joshua ben Sie. When the Romans took direct control of Judea in 6 CE, the Governor of Syria appointed Annas as the new High Priest.
