Salomone Rossi (M / Italy, 1570-1630), composer.

Salomone Rossi was born in Mantua, to a Jewish family. As a young man, Rossi acquired a reputation as a talented violinist. From 1587 to 1628 he served at the court of Mantua as concertmaster. In 1617, he contributed to the music for "La Maddalena", a sacra rappresentazione by Giovan Battista Andreini, with Claudio Monteverdi, Muzio Effrem, Salomone Rossi, and Alessandro Ghivazzani. Rossi probably died either in the invasion of Austrian troops, who in 1630 defeated the Gonzagas and destroyed the Jewish ghetto in Mantua, or in the subsequent plague which ravaged the area.
