Carl H. Bloch (1834-1890) was a Danish artist. A member of the Danish Academy of Art, in 1865 was commissioned to create 23 new paintings illustrating the life of Jesus for the King's Praying Chamber in the newly restored Frederiksborg Castle Chapel (which had been ravaged by fire in 1859). The author worked on this project for nearly fourteen years.
