The British New Testament Society (BNTS), established in 1979, is a learned society "to promote research of the New Testament and related writings."

History

The constitution of the British New Testament Society was planned in 1978 among a group of British member of the Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas (SNTS). The founding Meeting of the newly established Society was held in occasion of the 34th SNTS General Meeting at Durham, England in 1979.

Starting from 1980, the BNTS has sponsored an Annual Conference, with the exception of 1983 and 1988 when the SNTS held its General Meetings in Great Britain. Attendance at BNTS conferences is open to professional biblical scholars resident in Britain and to PhD students of a British institution.
