Biography

Bent Melchior was born June 24, 1929 in Germany. In 1933 his Danish family moved back to Denmark. His father, Marcus Melchior, was a rabbi in Copenhagen and would become chief rabbi of Denmark in 1947. From October 1943 to mid 1945 Bent Melchior and his family lived as refugees in Sweden. Back to Denmark, Bent succeeded his father as chief rabbi for the Jewish community in Denmark.
