Bérénice, la reine de Cesarée <French> / Berenice, the Queen of Cesarea (1940) is a play by Robert Brasillach.

Abstract

The tragedy in five acts provides a “Fascist” and anti-Semitic version of the popular story by adding to the two protagonists a third character, Paulinus, who on behalf of “a new, heroic and pure Roman youth” forces Titus to send away his Jewish lover.

Editions, performances, translations

First published and performed posthumously in the 1950s in France amid great controversy as Brasillach had been executed for his collaboration with the Nazi authorities during WW2.
