Atanasije Stojković / Атанасије Стојковић (1773-1832) was a Serbian scholar, physicist, astronomer, philologist and novelist. Stojković was born September 20, 1773 at Ruma. He studied in Serbia and Germany, earning his PhD from the University of Göttingen in 1799. He became Professor of Physics at the newly founded University of Kharkiv [Ukraine] and achieved great success for its pioneering studies on meteorites. After his retirement he lived in Petrograd where he devoted himself to the publication of the first translation of the New Testament into Serbian. Stojkovic died in Kharkiv on June 2, 1832.
