The Année Philologique Online is an online bibliographical database (with restricted access).

Overview

A database published by the Société Internationale de Bibliographie Classique, under the direction of Éric Rebillard, with the American Philological Association and the Database of Classical Bibliography, Dee L. Clayman, General Editor, with the support of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (France) and the National Endowment for Humanities (USA).

L'Année philologique on the Internet contains volumes 1 to 79 of the printed edition of L'Année philologique and covers 84 years of classical bibliography. It is updated once per year with all the entries that are included in the printed edition. Its primary focus is on philological publications on the Classical (Greek and Roman) world and thus often registers entries of great interest for the scholars in Second Temple Judaism and Christian Origins. Although APh has the subtitle « Critical and analytical bibliography », its editors express no judgment about the works they list. APh is critical only in the sense that it lists, within each book record (and only for books), reviews that appear in excerpted journals. It is analytical in the sense that records of articles include an abstract, usually brief, containing information about the contents of the article. Book records contain a brief description of contents only when the title is uninformative or could be misinterpreted by users. Access to this database is not free, although it is often granted by university libraries through their web portals.
