Ancient Texts for New Testament Studies: A Guide to the Background Literature (2005) is a book by Craig A. Evans.

Abstract

General introduction to Second Temple Jewish texts (OT Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha; Dead Sea Scrolls, Philo, Josephus, etc.) and early Christian and Rabbinic literature emphasizes the importance of these documents for the study of the New Testament.

"In Ancient Texts for New Testament Studies, Evans looks at the literature that had impact on, or is closely related to, NT texts - excepting the Masoretic text of the Hebrew Bible and the Ancient Near Eastern literature, which are covered by Kenton Sparks' companion work Ancient Texts for the Study of the Hebrew Bible (Hendrickson, 2005). A summary is provided for each of the hundreds of important documents. A bibliography for each entry contains information as to where the texts may be found published both in their original languages and in English and other modern languages. The bibliographies also contain information about commentaries, scholarly discussions of the passages, and works of general discussion on matters of interpretation when applicable."--Publisher description.
