Abstract

Ancient Judaism and Early Christianity began in 1961, as Arbeiten zur Geschichte des Spätjudentums und des Urchristentums (1961-63). In 1968 the name was briefly modified into Arbeiten zur Geschichte des späteren Judentums und des Urchristentums, and in 1976 became Arbeiten zur Geschichte des antiken Judentums und des Urchristentums. The definitive English name Ancient Judaism and Early Christianity came in 2004.

"The series, which includes monographs and collections of essays, covers a range of topics, typically focusing on areas of mutual influence or points of controversy between Judaism and Christianity in the first centuries CE. Recent titles published in the series have included important studies of Josephus, of the Jewish background of Paul's writings, and of the historical Jesus within his Jewish context."
