Ambrogio Donini (M / Italy, 1903-1991), scholar.
Biography
A student of Ernesto Buonaiuti at the University of Rome, was appointed his successor as Professor of the History of Christianity in 1926 when Buonaiuti lost his chair with the implementation of the Concordate between the Catholic Church and the Fascist regime. Having secretly joined the Italian Communist Party at the end of 1926, left Italy for the United States where he taught Italian from 1928 to 1931. Then moved back to Europe as an agent of the Italian Communist Party and an anti-fascist activist. After WW2, was Italian Ambassador in Poland in 1947, and member of the Italian Senate from 1953 to 1963. In 1960 (until 1971) resumed his position as Professor of the History of Christianity at the University of Bari. As a scholar advocated a strictly Marxist approach to the study of religion.
