Alfred Firmin Loisy (1857-1940) was a French scholar. Catholic priest. Professor at the Catholic Institute of Paris (1881-1893). Leader of the Modernist movement, was dismissed from the Institute and then excommunicated by the Catholic Church (1908). After teaching at the École des Hautes Études (1900-1904), joined the Collège de France (1909-1930).
