Alcoran <Latin> / The Qur'an (1200c) is a manuscript by Mark of Toledo.

Abstract

The second edition of the Qur'an in Latin was a product of the Escuela de Traductores de Toledo, the Toledo School of Translators. Many important scientific and literary texts were translated in those years from Arabic to Latin, including the Qur'an. Mark of Toledo's translation was more accurate and less biased than the previous translation by Robert of Ketton, but never became as popular. It was Robert of Ketton's translation, that was first printed by Theodor Bibliander in 1543 and originated the first European translations in moder European languages (Italian, German, and Dutch).

Editions

The text circulated in manuscript form.
