Aino Ackté

Aino Ackté (1876-1944) was a Finnish opera singer. She first played the title role of Richard Strauss's Salome in Leipzig (1907) and then in London (1910). The Covent Garden premiere was such an enormous success that Strauss himself proclaimed Ackté the "one and only Salome". Ackté was one of the first Salome singers to perform herself the Dance of the Seven Veils.
