Abraham Goldfaden (1840-1908) was an Ukrainian-born Jewish playwright and composer. Hebrew and Yiddish-language poet, producer, theatre director and dramatist. The father of Jewish modern theatre. Born in Starokonstantinov [Russia]. In 1876 founded in Romania the world's first professional Yiddish-language theater troupe.
