Gertude Hoffmann as Salome

A Vision of Salome (1908) is a vaudeville ballet by Gertude Hoffmann (chor.).

Abstract

Gertude Hoffmann's solo performance of the Dance of the Seven Veils was an imitation of famed European show The Vision of Salome (1906 Allan), ballet. Unlike many other vaudeville shows featuring "Salome dancers," Hoffmann offered an elaborated stage rendition with an original orchestral score by her husband Max Hoffmann. In April 1908 the couple had visited London with the specific goal of getting Allan's dance. Hoffmann's show caused scandal at many theatre houses around the United States. On several occasions Gertrude's suggestive dance style in scant costumes would lead to her arrest by local police.
