Gregoria Urbina y Miranda (F / United States, Spain, 1857), scholar

Born in San Francisco, California, at the age of seven she moved to Spain to be educated at the Monastery of Nuestra Señora de la Piedad (Casalarreina), a monastery of Contemplative Dominican nuns. She became a well known journalist in Madrid. Her extensive humanistic training (she was interested in theology, literature and natural history) allowed her to collaborate in various periodical publications in which she wrote on a wide variety of topics.
