Overview

The Australians are the multi-ethnic citizens of Australia (circa 24 million). Aside from the indigenous population, nearly all Australians or their ancestors came from other countries (mainly the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Germany, and China) within the past three centuries, as a result of immigration. They primarily speak the English language.

Most Australians today live within the borders of independent Australia (circa 23 million). There are sizeable populations of Australian immigrants and their descendants in the United Kingdom, the United States, Greece, and other countries.
