Simon of Perea (late 1st century BCE) was a Jewish rebel and royal claimant, who led a rebellion in Perea and Judea against the Romans, around 4 BCE.

Overview

According to Flavius Josephus, Simon of Perea was a former slave of Herod the Great. At the death of the king, he took advantage of the confusion about succession to proclaim himself king. The Syrian governor, Varus, intervened and Simon was killed.
