Overview
The Latvians, or Letts, are an ethnic group that primarily inhabit Latvia and speak the Latvian language (circa 1,800,000).
Most Latvians today live within the borders of independent Latvia (circa 1,300,000). There are Latvian minorities in nearby Russia, and sizeable populations of immigrants and their descendants in the United States, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and other countries.
