Orazio Marucchi (1852-1931) was an Italian scholar.

Biography

Orazio Marucchi was born in Rome [Italy], on Nov 10, 1852.

He was a student of Giovanni Battista de Rossi, with whom he collaborated in the study and exploration of the ancient catacombs of Rome.

He was director of the Vatican Egyptian and Lateran Museums, succeeded de Rossi as director of the Roman catacombs, and launched the Bullettino di archeologia cristiana. Since 1905 he was professor of Christian Archaeology at the University of Rome.

Marucchi died in Rome [Italy] on January 31, 1931.
