Silas / Silvanus was one of Paul's Companion.
Overview
Silas is first mentioned in Acts 15:22 as one of the disciples selected by the church elders to return with Paul and Barnabas to Antioch following the Jerusalem Council.
After Paul and Barnabas split, Silas accompanied Paul in Paul's Second Missionary Journey. He and Paul were imprisoned briefly in Philippi where an earthquake broke their chains and opened the prison door. Silas is thus sometimes depicted in Christian iconography carrying broken chains. .
Silas was with Paul in Thessalonica and after Paul fled to Athens, they were reunited in Corinth.
