According to Christian traditions, Relics of Matthew are preserved in the Cathedral of Salerno, Campania [Italy].

Matthew was one of Twelve Apostles and the reputed author of the Gospel of Matthew.

Legend says that the relics of Saint Matthew were for many years in the city of Naddaver in Ethiopia, where he suffered his martyrdom, but were transferred to Salerno on May 6, 954, where they remained concealed in a cave, for protection, for over a hundred years, until they were "rediscovered" in 1081 and buried in the crypt of the Cathedral of Salerno [Italy].
