According to Jewish (Christian, and Islamic) traditions, the ancient People of Israel was made of Twelve Tribes, the descendants of the Twelve Patriarchs. A portion of the Land of Israel was given to each tribe (see map), with the exception pf the Tribe of Levi who was granted the priesthood. The Tribe of Joseph was divided between his two children, Manasseh and Ephraim.
