Overview [2010-2012]

Judging from what has been published so far and from the forthcoming volumes to be printed in 2012, the Historical Jesus, the New Testament, and Christian beginnings are still the main concern of Spanish scholars in the field, with studies by Rafael Aguirre Monasterio, Xavier Alegre, Hugo Cáceres Guinet, Antonio González Echegaray, Carlos Granados García, Esther Miquel Pericás, Mercedes Navarro Puerto (with Marinella Perroni), Armand Puig i Tàrrech (in English), Josep Oriol Tuñi Vancells, Senén Vidal García. Likewise, translations of foreign studies dealing with these and other related issues are noteworthy in number already two years after the opening of the decade, as the translations of books by Jean Noël Aletti, Daniel Boyarin, Warren Carter, Kathleen E. Corley, James D.G. Dunn, Remi Gounelles, Larry W. Hurtado, Bruce J. Malina, John P. Meier, André Paul, Romano Penna, Ivoni Richter Reimer, Richard L. Rohrbaugh, and Ed Parish Sanders show.

This notwithstanding, some attention is also being paid to other issues such as the history of the Jews in the Roman period (by Eduardo Pitillas Salañer), the Greek versions of the Bible (by Amador Ángel García Santos), and the Targum (by Teresa Martínez Sáiz and Miguel Pérez Fernández).

On the other hand, two studies on the Dead Sea Scrolls, one by James C. VanderKam and Peter W. Flint, the other by Thierry Legrand and Jean Duheime, a monograph by Günter Stemberger on the roots and the development of Rabbinic Judaism, and an essay by Elisabeth Schüssler-Fiorenza on the apocalyptic imagination have also been published between 2010 and 2011.
