Johann Leonhard Hug (1765-1846) was a German scholar.

Biography

Roman Catholic Priest and Biblical scholar, Johann Leonhard Hug was born at Constance on June 1, 1765.

In 1791, two years after his ordination, he became professor of Old Testament at the University of Freiburg and the following year Professor of New Testament--field to which he devote most of his work.

Hug died March 11, 1846 in Freiburg.
