Alexander Buttmann (1813-1893) was a German scholar.

Biography

Classical philologist. Teacher in a secondary school on Potsdam. Edited several editions of a Greek grammar first authored by his father, Philipp Buttmann (1764-1829). In the process, he got interested in the particularities of NT Greek.

Works on Second Temple Judaism

Highlighted the difference between classical Greek and NT Greek.
