Overview [2010-2013]

Judging from what has been published so far and from the forthcoming volumes to be printed in 2012 and 2013, the Historical Jesus, the New Testament, and Christian beginnings are still the main concern of Spanish scholars in the field, with studies by Rafael Aguirre Monasterio, Xavier Alegre, Fernando Bermejo Rubio, Hugo Cáceres Guinet, Gonzalo del Cerro Calderón, Manuel Crespo Losada, Alfredo Fierro, Tomás García Huidobro Rivas, Antonio González Echegaray, María Elisa Estévez López, Carlos Granados García, Santiago Guijarro Oporto, Esther Miquel Pericás, Mercedes Navarro Puerto (with Marinella Perroni), Patricio de Navascués Benlloch, Xabier Pikaza, Antonio Piñero Sáenz, Armand Puig i Tàrrech (in English), Andrés Sáez Gutierrez, Carlos A. Segovia, Josep Oriol Tuñi Vancells, and Senén Vidal García. Likewise, translations of foreign studies dealing with these and other related issues are noteworthy in number already two years after the opening of the decade, as the translations of books by Jean Noël Aletti, François Bovon, Daniel Boyarin, Warren Carter, Kathleen E. Corley, James D.G. Dunn, Paolo Flores d'Arcais, Rémi Gounelle, Larry W. Hurtado, Bruce J. Malina, Joel Marcus, John P. Meier, André Paul, Romano Penna, Heikki Räisänen, and Richard L. Rohrbaugh, clearly show. An essay by Ivoni Richter Reimer on the historical Jesus originally published in Spanish should also be mentioned in this regard.

However, some attention is also being paid to other issues such as the history of the Jews in the Roman period (by Eduardo Pitillas Salañer and Joaquín Rodríguez Echegaray), the Greek versions of the Bible (by Natalio Fernández Marcos and Amador Ángel García Santos), the Targum (by Teresa Martínez Sáiz and Miguel Pérez Fernández), and the Jewish-Christian setting of early Islam (by Carlos A. Segovia).

On the other hand, two studies on the Dead Sea Scrolls, one by James C. VanderKam and Peter W. Flint, the other by Jean Duhaime and Thierry Legrand, a monograph by Günter Stemberger on the roots and the development of Rabbinic Judaism, and Richard I. Pervo's The Making of Paul have also been published between 2010 and 2012.
