James Parkes (1896-1981) was a British scholar, theologian, historian, and pioneer of Jewish-Christian dialogue. Graduated with a degree in Theology from Hertford College, Oxford in 1923. Ordained as a priest in 1926. Dedicated himself to the study of, and fight against, Anti-Semitism. Second Temple Judaism was at the center of his interest as the cradle of both the Church and the Synagogue, and therefore also of their conflicts. His legacy is carried on by the Parkes Institute at the University of Southampton, England.
