==Biography==

Walter Baumgartner was born in Winterthur in 1887.

A Semitist and biblical scholar, Baumgartner was professor first in [[Giessen, Germany]] (1920) and then in [[Basel, Switzerland]] (1929-58). He devoted much of his scientific work to the publication, along with [[Ludwig Koehler]], of the ''Lexicon in Veteris Testaments libros'' (1953), of which cured a supplement in 1956 and a new edition in 1967.

Baumgartner died in [[Basel, Switzerland]] in 1970.
