Theodore Parker

Theodore Parker (1810-1860) was an American scholar, Transcendentalist and reforming minister of the Unitarian church. A graduate from Harvard University, was fluent in Latin, Greek, Hebrew, and German, and was acquainted with many other ancient languages, including Aramaic, Syriac, Arabic, Coptic and Ethiopic. Openly questioned the historical reliability of Scriptures. A fervent abolitionists, his speeches influenced Abraham Lincoln. Died in Florence, Italy and is buried in the English Cemetery of the city.
