Overview

Not always all the Twelve Apostles are identified by name in the movies. Generally this privilege is reserved only to the most important ones, like Peter, John, Judas Iscariot, or Thomas.

Even when identified, Simon the Zealot is not given any special distinction. There are a few exceptions, however. In Jesus Christ Superstar, Simon dances and sings a song of his own, trying - unsuccessfully - to persuade Jesus to stir hatred among the masses against the Roman occupiers. Other Jesus movies, like Jesus of Nazareth by Franco Zeffirelli, portray him as a (former) member of the Zealots.
