Loie Fuller (1862-1928) was an American dancer, who was a pioneer of both modern dance and theatrical lighting techniques. In 1895 she was the first solo dancer to present a Salome piece and she did it in line with the "biblical" view of Salome as an innocent child. It was before the Wilde play (1896) and the Strauss opera (1905). When in 1907 she reprised the role with a different ballet, she performed a very different Salome as an "Oriental" femme fatale.
