Joseph Holt Ingraham (1809-1860) was an American novelist. Born in Portland, ME, Ingraham was author of popular adventure stories. After joining the Episcopalian clergy he wrote biblical novels that were highly esteemed by the Church and the general public--notably, The Prince of the House of David (1855), The Pillar of Fire (1859), and The Throne of David (1860). These novels inaugurated a genre that would become extremely popular in America. Died at Holly Springs, Mississippi, in December, 1860.
