John Vicars (1579/80-1652) was a British lay theologian and author. In 1645 he published a pamphlet in which he compared the OT Apocrypha to an "Unholsome Henbane between Two Fragrant Roses."

John Vicars was born an orphan at Christ's Hospital, London, England in 1579/80. After completing his education, he spend all his life as usher and later schoolmaster in that Institution. During the Civil War, Vicars played an important role in the movement to institute Presbyterianism in London and ever since served as one of the leaders of the Church. In 1645 he published a pamphlet in which he compared the OT Apocrypha to an "Unholsome Henbane between Two Fragrant Roses." Vicars died at Christ's Hospital, London, England ion April 12, 1652.
