Corleto Perticara, Potenza, Italy (see Basilicata, Italy) -- 5 children

Holocaust Children Studies

Corleto Perticara was one one the villages in Basilicata chosen by the Fascist authorities, in 1940-43, as places of internment of "foreign" Jews. Among the 19 internees were 5 children: the Bass family (mother and 2 children [one born in the village in 1943), and the Wolkowitz family (father, mother and 3 children). All of them were liberated there with the arrival of the Allies in September 1943. The Bass Family emigrated to Fort Ontario in July 1944, the Wolkowitz family went to a DP camp in Puglia.
