1 Maccabees is a Second Temple Jewish document, now included in the Septuagint, the Vulgate as well as in the canons of Roman Catholic or Eastern Orthodox Christian Bible, or among the Protestant OT Apocrypha.

Overview

The document aimed to celebrate the rise to power of the Hasmonean dynasty. Originally written in Hebrew, it was translated then in Greek.
