Overview
As the hero of a highly successful narrative, Ben-Hur has had the honor of being the protagonist of very popular productions. After the 1907 short, the first feature-length adaptation of the novel in 1915 was a smashing success and is still regarded as one of the greatest silent movies of all times. The 1959 sound version by William Wyler won an unprecedented 11 Oscar Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor.
Performing Ben-Hur (actors)
Ramon Novarro and Charlton Heston, protagonists of the two versions in 1925 and 1959 respectively, are among the most celebrated Hollywood actors of all times. Celebrities of this caliber are not generally involved in "biblical" movies, but Ben-Hur is different. He is a fictional character that resembles Christ but can be given a greater range of emotions that make a Hollywook star, from "hatred", "vengeance", strength in battle, even sex appeal.
