Biography

Alfred Kohn passed away on June 5, 2019 at his home on Longboat Key Florida, surrounded by family at the age of 92.

Alfred began his life in Berlin Germany in 1927. He fled the nazi onslaught with his parents, Chaim and Amelia, and brother Ingolf. The family struggled and survived World War II in the Jewish refugee ghetto in Shanghai China, and migrated to New York City once the war was won.

Alfred became a US citizen, and served in the US Army during the Korean war, stationed in Germany.

Alfred met his wife Hedy, the love of his life, in New York, and was blissfully married to her for one month short of 62 years at he time of his passing.

Alfred followed in his father’s footsteps with a career in the then still prosperous fur garment industry. Upon his retirement, he and Hedy found a second home in Longboat Key Florida.

Alfred was a Golden Gloves champion boxer, a soccer, tennis, paddleball, golf and sailing enthusiast.

For many years, Alfred and Hedy spent weekends with their children David and Karen in Pine Hill, a small town located in upstate New York, enjoying skiing and slower paced country living. Alfred loved trees and planted many at his home in Pine Hill, in Israel, as well as at his home in Jamaica NY.

Alfred cherished his family, friends, memories, and Jewish faith.

Alfred was interred at the Temple Beth Sholom Cemetery in Sarasota Florida, in accordance with his wishes and Jewish religious laws and traditions, on June 7, 2019.
